Academic Excellence, Global Recognition
The Cambridge A Level programme at Uppsala International School is a world-class qualification that opens doors to top universities around the globe. Designed for students aged 16 to 19, A Levels offer a deep and focused academic experience, allowing learners to specialize in subjects aligned with their interests and future goals.
At UIS, students typically select three to four A Level subjects, developing expertise and gaining the critical thinking, research, and analytical skills highly valued in higher education.
A Key Milestone in the A Level Journey
The Cambridge AS Level is the first half of the full A Level qualification and plays a crucial role in preparing students for academic excellence and university readiness. Typically taken at the end of Year 12, AS Level assessments allow students to demonstrate their subject knowledge, study skills, and potential for advanced academic work.
At Uppsala International School (UIS), the AS Level serves as both a standalone qualification and a stepping stone toward full A Levels. Students usually take 3 to 4 subjects, enabling focused, in-depth learning across disciplines aligned with their future study plans.
1. University-Ready Curriculum
Our A Level programme is internationally respected and widely accepted by universities in the UK, Europe, North America, and beyond. Students graduate with a strong academic foundation that gives them a competitive edge in university admissions.
2. Subject Specialization
Unlike broader high school programmes, A Levels allow students to focus deeply on specific subjects, encouraging mastery and in-depth understanding—ideal for those with clear academic or career ambitions.
3. Expert Instruction & Individual Support
UIS offers small class sizes, experienced subject specialists, and a personalized approach to learning. Each student receives guidance tailored to their goals, ensuring they stay motivated, challenged, and supported.
4. Skill Development for Life
Beyond academic knowledge, students build essential skills such as time management, independent study, research, and presentation—preparing them for the demands of university and the professional world.
5. Seamless International Pathway
As part of the Cambridge Pathway, A Levels at UIS are a natural continuation from IGCSE, providing consistency in learning and smooth progression through the upper years of secondary education.
At Uppsala International School, A Level students don’t just study—they grow into confident, capable young adults ready to lead, innovate, and excel in a globalized world.
At Uppsala International School, the Cambridge Advanced curriculum is delivered over two years and is structured to offer both depth and flexibility. Students follow either the full A Level route or complete the AS Level in specific subjects depending on their academic goals, university plans, and interests.
Students typically choose 3 to 4 subjects.
Each subject is studied in depth over one academic year.
At the end of Year 12, students take AS Level exams, which are internationally recognized qualifications on their own.
AS Level grades can contribute to university applications or help guide subject choices for A2.
Students continue with 2 to 3 of their AS subjects into A2 Level, the second half of the A Level course.
These subjects are explored at greater academic depth, emphasizing independent research, essay writing, and complex analysis.
At the end of Year 13, students take their final A Level exams.
A Level results are widely accepted by top universities worldwide, often forming the basis for conditional offers.
Flexible subject combinations tailored to student interests and career pathways.
Specialized subject focus encourages mastery and depth of knowledge.
Continuous assessment and academic advising ensure students stay on track.
University preparation support, including help with personal statements, references, and applications.
Whether a student chooses to complete just the AS Level or pursue full A Levels, our structured programme at UIS ensures a well-rounded, academically rigorous experience that equips learners for success in higher education and beyond.
At Uppsala International School, students enrolled in the Cambridge AS and A Level programme are required to select four subjects at the start of Year 12. These subjects are studied in depth over one or two years and lead to internationally recognized AS or A Level qualifications.

Recognized Excellence with Clear Academic Standards
Cambridge A Levels are widely regarded as the ‘gold standard’ of post-16 qualifications and are accepted by leading universities worldwide. They provide an ideal pathway for students who wish to specialize and deepen their knowledge in two or three key subject areas.
At Uppsala International School, students typically take AS Levels at the end of Year 12, which serve as standalone qualifications. However, AS Level results do not contribute towards the final A Level grade.
The full A Level qualification is assessed at the end of Year 13 through 100% examination. This rigorous assessment structure ensures students demonstrate thorough understanding and mastery of their chosen subjects.
We follow the traditional A to E grading system* for both AS and A Levels:
A* represents the highest level of achievement,
E is the minimum passing grade.
This clear grading scale allows students, parents, and universities to understand academic performance at a glance, ensuring transparency and consistent international standards.
Our assessment approach at UIS motivates students to achieve their personal best while preparing them comprehensively for university studies and future careers.
